Forty-eight hours after their fans started turning Glasgow city centre into a war zone the club from Ibrox have put together a half-hearted statement.

Although the terms Chelsea fans and inadequate security were missing from the statement a couple of old favourites were included as they tried to distance themselves from the carnage that they kept quiet about in the build up to the weekend.

Ultras Group Union Bears were behind the illegal march from Ibrox to George Square with their banners on display inside the stadium.

At noon today the club announced:

Sadly, a small minority of people behaved inappropriately and in a manner not reflective of our support. Some of the scenes were unacceptable and have besmirched the good name of Rangers Football Club.

These so called “fans” should reflect upon the values and ethos of our club, and consider the damage this does to the reputation of the club. We will continue to engage with authorities as required.

No mention was made of the videos showing first team players singing Sweet Caroline with the focus on the add-ons loved by their supporters.
