Chris McKee faces a thorough investigation from Ibrox after being sent off for homophobic abuse playing for Brechin City today.

The Murray Park starlet was shown a red card shortly before half-time in today’s defeat from Kelty Hearts which means that the Angus club will play in next season’s Highland League.

McKee’s offence was commented on by BBC Scotland with the referee report required to detail the incident in his match report.

The Sun reports:

Referee Craig Napier’s report is expected to include the incident which could see the youngster charged by SFA chiefs.

The forward was in the changing rooms on 41 minutes, with the BBC confirming it was for ‘foul and abusive language of a homophobic nature.’

An Ibrox spokesperson said: “Rangers are aware of an incident involving one of our on-loan academy players during a match this afternoon.

“We will investigate this incident thoroughly and it will be treated with the utmost seriousness. As a club, we oppose all forms of discrimination. We will handle this incident robustly.”

McKee moved to Ibrox from Linfield in 2018 and will be well aware of the club’s policies and their PR campaign titled Everyone Anyone which was launched at the time of the first UEFA partial stadium closure for racist actions by Ibrox fans.
