Celtic fans were given a welcome distraction from Howe No? last night with news that Oli McBurnie could be a transfer target.

The original story appeared in the Daily Mail with the Daily Record happy to pick it up and add some magic dust to the unlikely tale.

Apparently it would take an eight figure bid to secure the Sheffield United ace which for the benefit of Steven Gerrard is more than £9,999,999.

With his staunch use of Social Media and shocking goal-less performances for Scotland McBurnie has become something of a cult figure for Scottish football- the symbol that the English Premier League isn’t all that it is cracked up to be.

There were rolls of eyes across Scotland when newly promoted Sheffield United splashed out £20m to sign the Yorkshire born star from Swansea two years ago.

McBurnie did score 22 goals in 37 matches in The Championship but stepping up he has managed just seven goals in 59 EPL appearances although that rate is far better than his international strike rate of no goals in 16 appearances. At u-21 level he did score twice in two matches- against Latvia and the north of Ireland.

Sheffield United are currently managerless with McBurnie under contract until May 2023.
