It is well known that relations between Celtic and Hibs are particularly frosty, especially when Rod Petrie and Peter Lawwell get involved.

The two men first clashed in 2009 when Gordon Strachan was hoping to sign Steven Fletcher. Petrie won that battle with the striker joining Burnley.

A decade later John McGinn was wanted by Brendan Rodgers. Showing that he hadn’t developed his strategy Lawwell lost out again with the midfielder joining Aston Villa.

There was some business done over Scott Allan, even when the midfielder did join Celtic he played more matches on loan at Hibs before re-joining the Edinburgh side at the end of four year Celtic contract.

When Neil Lennon joined Celtic Martin Boyle was regularly linked with a move to Glasgow, with an Australian in charge of the hoops that speculation has continued although Hibs appear to have inserted a clause in the winger’s contract with one club in mind.

Edinburgh Live reports:

Martin Boyle’s £500,000 release clause makes him an attractive proposition, but it’s understood only clubs from outwith Scotland are able to activate it.

The Aberdeen-born, Australian internationalist signed a new contract with Hibs in August 2020 which runs for three years.
