Celtic reported to have completed defender transfer

A report by 90min claims that Oostende have completed a £2m deal to sign Jack Hendry from Celtic.

The defender slipped quietly out of Celtic last summer with Shane Duffy chosen to replace Jozo Simunovic but over the course of the season Hendry managed to win back his place in the Scotland squad and attract interest from English clubs.

Incredibly Oostende seemed to have negotiated a win-win deal from Peter Lawwell for the defender. If he failed to impress he returned to Celtic but if he made an impact Oostende could make the deal permanent for somewhere close to £2m.

Despite signing for Oostende Hendry is unlikely to return to Belgium with Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Burnley and Leeds prepared to take him to the EPL- for considerably more than the £2m fee Celtic will pick up.

Claiming an Exclusive, 90min reports:

Scotland international Jack Hendry has committed to joining Oostende permanently after the Belgian side triggered their option to sign him following his loan from Celtic.

The 26-year-old joined Oostende on loan last summer and managed to negotiate an option to buy of just under £2m, with Celtic keen to offload Hendry at that point.

Since then, however, Hendry has enjoyed a fantastic rise to prominence. He was named the best foreign player in the Belgian league after guiding Oostende to sixth and has been handed a spot in Scotland’s Euro 2020 squad as a result.

Sources have confirmed to 90min that Oostende have leapt at the chance to pay such a small fee for Hendry, who is understood to have put pen to paper on a contract with the Belgian side over the weekend, but he will not be playing there next season after Oostende agreed to sell him on to the highest bidder this summer.

Should Peter Lawwell leave with immediate effect?

Yes, utterly toxic, the rebuild starts when he leaves

Hendry is with the Scotland squad that faces Holland tonight. Neither Celtic or Oostende have commented on the transfer but the teamlines tonight might be a giveaway.
