Celtic are reported to be considering a move to sign Matt Ryan.

The Australian was first choice keeper at Brighton until last season when he fell out of favour and moved on loan to Arsenal.

Ryan was the regular first pick for Ange Postecoglou when he was in charge of the Australian national side with the goalkeeping issue likely to be a priority for the new Celtic boss.

The Sun reports:

BOSS Ange Postecoglou could turn to trusted Aussie keeper Mathew Ryan as his first Celtic signing. Socceroos No1 Ryan, 29, has fallen out of favour at Brighton and needs a new club to maintain his hopes of playing in next year’s World Cup.

SunSport understands he is being considered for a move to Scotland — but Arsenal haven’t given up hope of taking the player back to London.

The 60-cap keeper moved to the Emirates on loan in January but made only three appearances as understudy to Bernd Leno.

With only out-of-favour Vasilis Barkas and Scott Bain as experienced keepers, Postecoglou want to bring in a new No?1 for next season.

Postecoglou picked Ryan for the 2014 World Cup and he maintained his position for the Aussies’ Asian Cup triumph the following year.

Ryan has a year left on his Brighton contract but it is unlikely that he will return to the south coast after losing his place as first choice to Roberto Sanchez.

Working again with Postecoglou will have obvious appeal but with a transfer fee required and EPL wages expected any move for Ryan could take up a significant chunk of the budget for the new Celtic boss.

Brighton paid Valencia £5m to sign the Australian in 2017, in seasons 2017/18 and 2019/20 he started all 38 EPL matches.
