Ange Postecoglou will be announced as the new Celtic manager in the next 72 hours- but won’t meet his new players until July 4 in Wales.

The news comes from The Sun which tends to be quite close to the action and Peter Lawwell’s decision making.

Celtic announced on May 29 that Eddie Howe wouldn’t become their new manager with the focus quickly switching to Postecoglou accompanied by claims of advanced talks.

There has been a couple of reports of agreements being reached but The Sun gives a definite timeline with the new boss missing two weeks training at Lennoxtown as Celtic wait for clearance from UEFA on their new coach’s qualifications.

The Sun reports:

Now SunSport can reveal personal terms with the Aussie-Greek coach have been verbally agreed. Barring any last-minute hitches the 55-year-old will be officially announced as Neil Lennon’s successor within the next 72 hours.

It brings an end to the club’s agonising search for a new boss which has lasted over 100 days. Celts have plans in place for a pre-season training camp in Wales ahead of their crucial European qualifiers.

And the likelihood is that their new manager will jet straight there rather than fly into Scotland first. There are also still red-tape issues to overcome over Postecoglou’s coaching qualifications.

Should Ange Postecoglou be offered the Celtic job?

The report gives no details on who will take charge of recruitment or if the club will appoint a Director of Football.

With Lawwell set to retire on June 30 this looks like his final decision with Dom McKay inheriting a multitude of issues including finding a Director of Football that believes Postecoglou is the man to perform the biggest turnover of players in more than 20 years.

Celtic face Sheffield Wednesday (July 7), Charlton (July 10) and Bristol City (July 14) in Jales ahead of their first Champions League qualifier on July 20/21.
