Istanbul Basaksehir have announced that they won’t be taking up their option to buy Boli Bolingoli on a permanent basis.

The return of the Belgian will be another of the big issues facing Ange Postecoglou after the chaos he created with Celtic’s early season plans last August.

It would be harsh to put all of the blame for a disastrous season on Bolingoli but his trip to Spain was the first significant issue with two postponed matches putting the club behind schedule and short on fixtures ahead of the Champions League defeat from Ferencvaros.

Basaksehir announced:

The contract of Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo, who played successfully for one season under our orange-dark blue jersey, has expired. Our club has decided not to exercise the purchase option in the rental agreement with Celtic FC.  We thank Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo for his efforts for our club and wish him success for the rest of his career.

Bolingoli joined Celtic from Rapid Vienna shortly before the transfer of Kieran Tierney but never got close to replacing the Scotland defender.

With two years left to run on his Celtic contract the hoops will be looking for a quick solution with nothing in Bolingoli’s performances suggesting that he can overcome the backlash he created with his trip to Spain.
