Reports from Holland have linked Celtic as a potential destination for Kenneth Paal.

The left-back came through the ranks at PSV Eindhoven but left two years ago for PEC Zwolle where he has put in two solid seasons that have attracted interest from elsewhere.

With a year left to run on his contract PEC will be looking to pick up the maximum transfer fee rather than see an asset run down his contract and move for free next summer. It is a situation that Celtic are familiar with.

The Sun reports:

PEC Zwolle left-back Kenneth Paal admits he is flattered by links with a move to Celtic. Paal has attracted interest from clubs in England, with Barnsley reportedly having a £650,000 bid knocked back recently.

Greg Taylor and Boli Bolingoli are Celtic’s current left backs but Bolingoli’s future remains uncertain after last year’s Covid breach saw him sent on loan to Turkey. And Dutch media have touted Paal, 24, for a move to Glasgow.

With AZ Alkmaar, Bordeaux and St Etienne among potential suitors, Paal singled out the Scottish Premiership side for special praise.

He said: “It’s such a big club with such a history, that’s always nice to hear. That just shows that you’re doing a good job.”

Celtic have also been strongly linked with Aaron Hickey who has mainly played at left-back but can play on the right as well. Hickey appears to have a price tag of £3.5-4m on his head.

Ange Postecoglou takes his squad to Wales today for training and three friendly matches with Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide the only additions to last season’s squad.

With two weeks to go until Celtic take on Midtjylland in the Champions League time is running out for Paal or any other signings to make an impact in those matches.
