Stephen McGowan has confirmed Celtic’s interest in Kristijan Lovric.
Throughout Sunday there were suggestions on social media of contact with Croatian side Gorica over the left-winger.
There didn’t seem to be too much substance to many of the claims but it seems that the 25-year-old is among Ange Postecoglou’s transfer targets with five weeks remaining of the window.
Wingers Liel Abada and Kyogo Furuhashi were the first two players signed by the new Celtic boss but it seems that another winger could be on the way.
Discussing Celtic’s likely transfer activities in the Daily Mail, McGowan explains:
Right-back is the priority, with a move for Royal Antwerp’s Portuguese Aurelio Buta taking shape after Sheffield United proved difficult to deal with over George Baldock.
Postecoglou also wants a holding midfielder, another centre-back and another winger, with Croatian club Gorica having placed a £4.2m price-tag on the head of target Kristijan Lovric.
Celtic have lodged an enquiry for the winger, but reports in Croatia claim there is competition from Hellas Verona for the 25-year-old. Gorica have told suitors they are prepared to listen to offers of €5million (£4.2m).
Over more than a decade McGowan has been the most reliable media source of Celtic transfer activity.
Carl Starfelt and Furuhashi should be out of quarantine this week but as Saturday’s 6-2 defeat from West Ham demonstrated Celtic are in need of a substantial rebuild.
On Wednesday Postecoglou will field the youngest ever Celtic defence in a European tie when he takes his side to face Midtjylland with a victory taking them through to a third round tie against PSV Eindhoven or Galatasaray.
