A report from Greece this afternoon has claimed that Giorgos Giakoumakis will end up in Scotland.

The VVV Venlo striker visited Werder Bremen last week for signing talks but the newly relegated German side have gone public over the cash restrictions that they are operating under.

Ange Postecoglou is reported to have made personal contact with Giakoumakis with Celtic almost certainly looking to bring in at least one striker before the transfer window closes next week.

Greek website Sport 24 reports:

The transfer of Giorgos Giakoumakis to Celtic was close to being realized, when the Greek striker was found touring Bremen on behalf of Werder. Nevertheless, all indications are that he will end up in Scotland, as the latest statements of the sports director of the German club, Frank Bowman, close the door on the international forum.

“Our financial resources are limited and it is important that we use them in the best possible way. We have to be realistic and accept that other clubs can make better salary offers. But it is good to say that we are no longer forced to sell players. “And now we have room to move into the transfer market, ” Bowman said.

The signing of Josip Juranovic illustrated that Celtic are prepared to be patient in the transfer market to get the right player into the club.

During Celtic’s pre-season trip to Wales Postecoglou stated that right-back was a position that needed strengthened but it wasn’t until after the eight competitive match that a deal was done with Legia Warsaw.

Kyogo Furuhashi has made a great impact in three weeks at Celtic but for a variety of reasons there are doubts over what contribution Postecoglou can expect from Odsonne Edouard, Albian Ajeti and Leigh Griffiths.
