There could be transfer interest in Vasilis Barkas before the transfer window closes.

A year after Celtic paid AEK Athens £4m for the goalkeeper he has dropped to third choice with little prospect of getting another chance at Celtic.

It is highly unlikely that Celtic would be offered anything like the fee they paid a year ago meaning that a loan deal seems more likely for the 27-year-old.

Chorianopoulos is the editor in chief of Greek newspaper Sportime.

Barkas started the season as Ange Postecoglou’s first choice keeper, was replaced by Scott Bain for the return leg against Midtjylland before Celtic handed Joe Hart a three year contract.

With 10 caps for Greece there is likely to be interest from Greece in taking the keeper on loan.

Celtic do have Conor Hazard to step up to third choice keeper if Barkas moves out but the Irishman is in need of first team football and was linked with a loan move to Dundee.

It is hard to see a way back for Barkas at Celtic but with the comfort of three years left on his deal the keeper will have a big say in where his future lies.
