Celtic remain in contention to sign Georgios Giakoumakis despite reports of the striker being in Germany for talks with Werder Bremen.
Ange Postecoglou is reported to have contacted the striker directly in a bid to convince the 26-year-old that Celtic is the club best suited to advance his career.
Giakoumakis’ career had been that of a journeyman striker but a move to VVV Venlo from Gornik Zabze last summer triggered a remarkable scoring run that saw him land the Golden Boot for the top scorer in Holland.
His mundane pedigree may have made some clubs sceptical about last season’s exploits but Postecoglou seems to believe that Giakoumakis can keep on scoring with a move to Celtic.
Despite the fact that Giakoumakis was in Bremen and had negotiations with Werder, Celtic are still in. Werder had a €2m. plus add-onns bid rejected by Venlo, talks ongoing. Celtic are in, Werder have an advantage @CelticFC @werderbremen #Celtic #CelticFC #Werder #WerderBremen

Despite their five match winning run Celtic’s striking ‘options’ seem over reliant on Kyogo Furuhashi.
Odsonne Edouard has been demoted to second choice in the final year of his contract with Albian Ajeti and Leigh Griffiths very much on the margins as Postecoglou reshapes the Celtic squad.
