Tom English was in his happy and glorious pomp in the Radio Scotland studio before today’s SPFL action got underway.
The chief football writer for BBC Scotland had failed to make the cut for the Olympic Games in Japan or the Lions tour of South Africa but an invite to watch Steven Gerrard’s men in the company of Mark er um Hateley wasn’t bad compensation.
Without either an original thought or worthwhile story in his entire career English is the wizened voice of sport for the state broadcaster. Sharing his wisdom across a variety of sports after helping to tank circulation at The Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday.

United could be in major trouble today. You know, Rangers, they’re so settled, they are so well drilled, they are coming up against United, coming up against a major, major force, Scottish force here. I think that this is spoiling for a comprehensive Rangers victory here.
Dundee United avoided a comprehensive doing, English will continue giving his insight into all sporting matters over the coming days and weeks for the state broadcaster.
The really interesting thing to take from this email, is the collaboration in fabricating a narrative to get a point across.
It’s all staged.
