Gary McAllister refused to give an answer over whether Steven Gerrard will be in the Ibrox dug out to face Celtic.

The Liverpool legend was posted missing in Armenia yesterday as his side held Alashkert to a 0-0 draw to reach the group stage of the Europa League.

McAllister was able to confirm that some players left out of that trip will be involved on Sunday but body-swerved the question over whether his boss will be back in the dug-out.

The Sun reports:

Asked directly if Gerrard would be able to return for the match which kicks off on Sunday lunchtime, McAllister told talkSPORT: “The thing is, whoever is in charge and whatever squad and whatever players are available for the game, we are looking forward to it.

“We will be totally committed and we will be well prepared. The build up to this game is always the same, I can feel it over here in Armenia. Our players will be busting to get on this pitch on Sunday, whoever it is, whoever makes it, whoever is available.

“The facts are we have a few players coming back. It has been a wee bit disjointed at the start of the season but it is issues that every club has had to deal with.”

If Gerrard is unavailable McAllister and tactics guru Michael Beale will be in charge of the home side.

John Lundstram and Kemar Roofe are available after being suspended for the match in Alashkert but the status of others such as Allan McGregor, Ryan Kent and James Tavernier is likely to remain a mystery until the teams are announced at 10.45am on Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou will experience the Glasgow derby for the first time on Sunday- with no Celtic fans inside the ground.
