Celtic’s Colts team proved far too strong for Berwick Rangers as they ran out 2-0 winners at Airdrie’s Penny Cars Stadium.

It was the second successive win for Tommy McIntyre’s side with their opponents struggling to keep up with the yong Celts once they started to find their passes and push forward.

After a shift at work Berwick’s part-timers had no answer to the pace and fitness of Celtic with Rocco Vata coming in off the right flank a particular threat.

Rudi’s bhoy opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a fierce shot from 15 yards out after the visitors defence had been opened up by a brilliant through ball from Owen Moffat.

Berwick came into the match briefly before the half hour but once the young Celts won back control they threatened to over-run their opponents.

A slack pass in the 38th minute presented Adam Brooks with a sight of goal that he didn’t waste with a low shot doubling the lead.

Berwick keeper Andy McNeil saved well from Brody Paterson and Vata as the young Celts turned on the style in front of an appreciative crowd enjoying some rare live action.

The second half never really got started, Berwick seemed to get a second wind with Celtic reduced to pinging balls down the right for Vata to chase onto.

Bosun Lawal came close to a goal with a header on the hour mark but Celtic failed to pick up on the powerful play they showed as the first half came to a close.
