Ben Doak was the Scotland goalscorer in the 1-1 draw with the Welsh u-17 side at Stirling Albion on Thursday night.

Listed as a defender on the SFA website, the young Celt was making his first appearance at u-17 level, at the age of 15 he won’t be eligible to play for Celtic’s B team until November when he turns 16.

Playing in midfield with the number seven he stepped forward in the 20th minute to send a looping header back across the Welsh goal to open the scoring.

After the match, former Celtic winger and Scotland u-17 coach Brian McLaughlin told the SFA website:

Ben Doak did well tonight and he’s a great player. He’s a good threat and great character around training as well. His attitude towards training is infectious and there’s no doubt that he loved his debut for the 17s tonight. It felt like every time he had the ball he could create us a chance.

Doak is the grandson of Martin who played at Morton between 1982 and 1994.

International matches at these levels are a magnet for scouts across Europe, at one sitting they can run their eye over the best players from two countries in action. For a second viewing the teams play each other again on Sunday.

Doak was the only Celtic player in the Scotland squad.
