James Forrest is closing in on his return to action.

The winger has had a stop start year since a serious foot injury was identified away to Riga last September in a Europa League qualifier.

Forrest made a return towards the end of last season and made it into the Scotland squad for the European Championships but struggled at the start of this season.

Since helping Celtic to a 2-0 win over AZ Alkmaar on August 18 he has been out of contention but last week Ange Postecoglou sounded confident that the 30-year-old was nearing a return to first team action.

After being pictured training at Lennoxtown on Tuesday the Daily Record reports:

Another positive sign on the injury front for Celtic is James Forrest. The winger has been a big-miss since his start to the season was curtailed by injury.

Having had a pre-season hampered by injuring and his Euro 2020 call-up, the 30-year-old looked desperate to get back to top fitness ahead of a top team return.

While Postecoglou has said he will be a couple of weeks away, it’s a welcome sight for the Parkhead faithful to see him executing his trademark bursting runs. Even if it’s just at Lennoxtown, for now.

Mikey Johnston has come off the bench in Celtic’s last three matches, alongside the likely return of Forrest Postecoglou could have some serious options for his wide positions.

Jota has started every match since joining Celtic on loan from Benfica but with two matches a week through to January 2 including eight in December Postecoglou will be digging deep into his squad to put in a trophy challenge.
