Ian Bankier was roundly criticised in the room and online for his performance at the Celtic AGM.

Without Peter Lawwell throwing in the occasional attempt at humour the elderly chairman was in the firing line from angry shareholders as he tried to deflect questions towards Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay.

When Bankier started the meeting the temperature in the room noticeably dropped. Introducing his fellow directors there wasn’t a single piece of applause, Fran Alonso and Ange Postecoglou were warmly cheered. An Australian and a Spaniard were far more popular than the supposed custodians and guardians of the club.

In a pre-recorded video interview with Gerry McCullouch  Bankier, Nicholson and McKay rhymed off a number of excuses and cliches to excuse their own failings.

No mention was made of short-lived CEO Dom McKay or a fourth successive failure to reach the group phase of the Champions League. Chris McKay (Financial Director) even spoke glowingly about the benefits of playing in the Europa Conference!

Shows of hands in the room went against the re-election of Bankier and Brian Wilson but they went through on an avalanche of proxies.

When the hour long Q and A got underway there wasn’t a single complimentary statement towards the board.

Off script Bankier fumbled through his replies, his attempts at humour were feeble, joking that he hadn’t played in last season’s defeat in the Champions League to Ferencvaros.

With their annual hour of accountability and discomfort out the way for 2021 it’ll be business as usual for Bankier and chums with a few days in Germany to look forward to next week.

Whether Bankier will be invited to step down remains to be seen, from Twitter reactions he won’t be remembered fondly whenever he decides to join Lawwell in retirement.

They’ll use the old Tory trick. Give it a week and it’ll blow over. Then it’s back to business as usual. Going nowhere with this mob in charge.
Still not convinced that they haven’t done a deal with the hun board regarding the outcome of this seasons league.
The huns seem pretty confident that they will be in a position of break even soon, when only a complete idiot would think that.

It’s sad that so many so-called Celtic fans show just how ignorant and bigoted they really are at times like this!
It makes you pleased to know that none of them are in positions of strength at the club!
We are, like it or not, by a million miles, the best run club in Scotland and up there with the best run clubs in the world.
Never anywhere will you find a board at any club or organization who make decisions which make every shareholder happy!
But our so-called fans embarrass themselves time after time. They cost the club they claim to love thousands, even hundreds of thousands of pounds in fines annually! Their ignorance is deafening at times!
Unfortunately this is the price we pay when anyone can purchase shares in the club.
These idiots do more to destroy the image of our great club than any ten groups of rival fans combined.

    Stop embarrassing yourselves!

So much for democracy and a democratic vote when the amount of shares and money you have gives you more of a say and sway than anyone else.
It’s high time that it was one member one vote regardless of the amount of money you have invested.
Lets face it we would not have a smarmy arrogant out of touch old Rangers supporting Tory balloon for a Chairman if there was any form of democracy or decency inside the Celtic Board room today.

This. . .”man” must not be allowed another year to destroy Celtic from the Inside – he must be forced to resign a.s.a.p.

  • Peter Cassidy says:

It will only happen if the large shareholders make him retire but they seem happy to let you old codger carry on as chairman and demoted Wilson would be nice to get some young blood in the board with vision on how the club go forward celtic is run like a gentleman’s tory club.
