Six days before a League Cup semi-final against Hibs there is no rush from Sevco to appoint a successor to Steven Gerrard. That is the message from inside Ibrox.
On Thursday morning Aston Villa announced their new management team with the former Liverpool skipper heading south accompanied by five first team coaches leaving Jermain Defoe and Colin Stewart to arrange the bibs and comes.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s agents maximised attention over the weekend as the Dutchman flew in and out for talks about the vacancy with Sporting Director Ross Wilson.
The quick appointment of a star name has been expected/demanded by supporters but this morning Go Radio moved to dampen down those expectations.
Last Tuesday afternoon the digital radio station were claiming that there had been no approach from Villa for Gerrard, by Thursday morning they were reporting on Villa’s new manager!

With van Bronckhorst out of management since last December there shouldn’t be any delay in announcing him as Gerrard’s successor unless his interest in a club that recently announced losses of £23.5m on a turnover of £47.7m has cooled.
At the start of October Gerrard went public with his frustrations over the lack of spending in the last two transfer windows.
Derek McInnes, Barry Ferguson, Shelley Kerr, Alex Rae, Nuno Espirito Sanchez, Neil Warnock and Neil McCann have all been linked with jobs within the next management team.
