The Daily Record has comforting news for its declining army of readers this morning with Pablo Torre on his way to Ibrox in next week’s transfer window.

Despite £23.5m of losses last year, failure to reach the Champions League and Scott Arfield and Conor Goldson running down their contracts there is money to burn with a £4m fee lined up for the exciting Spanish starlet who just happens to be playing in the Third Division which is semi-professional.

Real Madrid are quoted with an interest as are clubs in Italy and Spain but it seems that the lure of working under Giovanni van Bronckhorst in a midfield that also includes John Lundstram and Ryan Jack will be enough to entice Torre to Ibrox.

The Record reports:

Rangers are keeping tabs on Spanish kid Pablo Torre. The Racing Santander midfielder has been recommended to the Ibrox club’s scouts as a potential summer target.

Torre has been a sensation in Spain’s third tier for Santander, who have fallen down from La Liga due to financial problems.

Racing have tied him down on a contract to 2025 with a transfer release clause, believed to be around £4 million.  But the club needs cash and Torre is highly rated in his Spain as an Under-19 international.

It seems that financial problems and playing in the third tier of the Spanish game has taken its toll on Santander, who aren’t linked to the bank of the same name.

Real Madrid and Galatasaray are keeping tabs on Ianis Hagi while Porto and Benfica are expected to battle it out to sign Alfredo Morelos who is preparing for his ninth transfer window at Ibrox.

The report ends with the line that no fee could be involved due to Santander’s financial problems, effectively allowing Torre to move on a Naismith/McGregor/Lafferty/Fleck/Whittaker deal.
