Kris Boyd has explained why Callum McGregor can’t get a place in the four man midfield that he has selected for his SPFL Premiership Team of the Season so far.

To most experts the Celtic skipper is head and shoulders above any other player in Scotland but not to the former Kilmarnock striker.

Boyd shoehorns James Tavernier into right midfield, a position that he hasn’t played in this season with Ibrox duo Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo keeping McGregor out of the central roles that the hoops skipper has made his own. During the 2021 European Championships Scotland manager just one goal- from McGregor.

Explaining his selection, Boyd told Sky Sports:

Joining Tavernier in midfield is Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo. Glen comes in just ahead of Callum McGregor who has also had an excellent season so far but his team-mate at Celtic Jota would come in on that left-side and has already shown this season how dangerous he can be from there.

Who would be in centre mid for your Premiership Team of the Season?

Jota has played on the left of Celtic’s three man forward line, contributing goals and assists in Europe and domestically.

Tom Rogic appears to have evaded Boyd’s attention but there is a place in his back three for Cameron Carter-Vickers.

BOYD XI: Gordon; Souttar, Carter-Vickers, Mulgrew; Tavernier, Kamara, Aribo, Jota; Boyle, Watt, Kyogo

Kris Boyd explains….really? I never once read him say the truth that his reason for choosing a far inferior player over a far superior one was for any reason other than which club he plays for, so it’s hardly revelatory stuff. A Tan prefers a player playing for his 9 year old pub club as opposed to a better player who plays for the biggest club in the country to whom Boyd is religiously out of kilter with. We didn’t lose a cancer cure here. As for Boyd? – 51/ 1. Mind The Gap.

That’s why you ain’t a fckn manager ya bawbag.

Maybe Kamara is just easier for him to spell. Can’t believe Sky give him the air time – and crayons – to do this though. Who gives a flying what Monster Munch Boy “thinks”??!!! And by “thinks”, I’m stretching the definition here to include the chemical reactions that happen on the rare occasions some of the handful of brain cells in his otherwise empty head accidentally collide.

PS – Funny how Boyd’s XI doesn’t include £50 million squillion gazillion-rated El Buffoonalo, with Watt and Kyogo getting the nod up front. You’d think with all those world record bids from top EPL and European clubs, as well as mysterious Chinese teams, that Sevco have turned down to keep him, he would be the first name on Boyd’s team sheet.
