In the summer they were being dismissed as the joke from the J-League.

Celtic were in such a state that after 106 days of searching they turned to Japan to bring in an Australian manager with no knowledge of the Scottish game and the unique demands of football in the Glasgow goldfish bowl.

Compounding the madness Ange Postecoglou was bringing with him a lightweight Japanese winger who’d soon be sussed out by the hammer-throwers of Scottish football.

Yesterday Postecoglou and Kyogo Furuhashi were celebrating their 55th trophy success with the League Cup returned to Celtic Park.

In 12 days’ time the transfer window reopens with the very strong likelihood that Celtic will again be recruiting from the J-League.

This time there might be a little less contempt for the new arrivals at Celtic Park.
