The National has reeled in then deleted a story accusing Kyogo Furuhashi of cheating.

The Celtic striker appears to have every movement analysed as he makes a massive impact in Scottish football and vies for the title of top goalscorer.

Last Thursday against Hearts Kyogo scored the only goal of the game- sparking an outcry over a possible offside call.

Somewhat overlooked was the foul play that he suffered including one incident with John Souttar where it appeared that the Celtic striker was nipped or grabbed in the stomach.

Taking things a little further, Kyogo has had cheat headlines created by The National, part of the Newsquest Group that also publishes The Herald and Glasgow (Evening) Times.

A version of the story, by the same writer, Ewan Paton was still available on The Herald website at 2.15 pm on Tuesday.

Picking up on a report from Football Insider, The Herald reports:

CELTIC striker Kyogo Furuhashi should face punishment by Scottish FA should he continues to ‘exaggerate’ in Scotland. That’s the view of former Premier League whistler Keith Hackett.

Kyogo has been a sensational signing for the Parkhead club, scoring 14 goals in 23 appearances since his summer move from the J-League. He instantly became a fans’ favourite among Celtic fans for his string of standout performances as a result.

However, the Japanese star has come under scrutiny in recent weeks over highlighted instances of the internationalist seemingly going down easily.

Newsquest also publish The Celtic Way which likes to pretend that it is Celtic Fan Media.

He has them worried, that is why everyone is out against him, nothing said about Morelos who is far worse. The wee man takes lots of abuse off the ball that goes un punished

It’s funny a player like Morelos have never been mentioned in the national press for all the cheating he’s been doing for years nothing said. Now a player who has only been in this country for a few months is branded a cheat from a crap newspaper the reporter must be biased

  • John S says:

He exaggerated an assault ? Let’s focus on these assaults and the less than impartial treatment he receives. Why is such a player being erroneously denigrated ?

  • John mcghee says:

  • David Tolmie says:

  • Jim nash says:

  • Chas Mcalindon says:

Japan has a long cultural history in which honour is highly valued. I would imagine that cheating would be rarely seen in the J league, and I can’t imagine thatJapanese football heroes, which includes Kyogo would ever be anything other than positive role models. Like Nakamura before, Kyogo Furahashi has done nothing to merit accusations of cheating.
