Alex Rae is rapidly taking over from Derek Johnstone as the most blinkered cheer-leader in the Scottish media.

For decades big Derek defied all logic as he talked up everything coming out of Ibrox, sharing his views with readers of the Evening Times and listeners to Radio Clyde.

Suddenly in August 2019 DJ left the Clydebank based broadcaster with no explanation given, his predictions for the season had been given but alas he was no more.

Chris Sutton famously called him out in September 2016, alongside Hugh Keevins he had predicted a first ever SPFL title for Mark Warburton’s side up against Brendan Rodgers and Celtic.

Rae has been a regular on Radio Clyde for the best part of a decade, appearing on the midweek phone-in and on matchdays when he isn’t on ‘Rangers TV’ alongside Shelley Kerr.

The older he gets the more obliging Rae becomes to issues Ibrox related. Presented with two versatile players arriving in Glasgow this week the former Dundee and St Mirren boss proved his own versatility with two difference answers!

Hatate: Automatically my instincts are ‘I’m no buying this’ because you’re either better at one or the other.

Sands: He’s a full international already, versatile. The interesting things about that whole bit there from Tom was….

with comments like that he should do very well at Radio Clyde along with his friends Dalziel (Motherwell fan!!!) and keevins all specializing in “Toing the party line”

Why give these clowns value. Any response to him wastes time and energy. ewan murray and alex rae. Inconsequential in the extreme

  • Tommy says:

Infairness the host Gordon Duncan is decent, however is hiring these nuggets must be questioned. I have listened to this show for decades, Dalziel and Wilson I would keep but the rest I have been turning off. It really has become a soup slurping exercise with Keevins and Hannah neck and neck.

Like many, I used to listen, but rarely do now. I do know that they split Keevins & Rae up from their regular Monday night show as the numbers dropped dramatically. This slot has always been a big numbers draw, so they’ve now split them up to see if (a) Can they pull the numbers back in with new guests? (b) Will the numbers drop on a specific night on their new slots?

In short, they’re both under scrutiny, so if you want to get shot of Rae altogether, don’t tune in on the night Rae is on…if you want to tune in at all.
