Celtic have been linked with a move for Zinedine Ferhat of Nimes.

The right-sided midfielder or winger certainly doesn’t play in the J-League with the initial story appearing to come from the Footmercato website. With 1.8m followers on Twitter it is clearly a respected source and not in the market of conjuring up unlikely links to Celtic for traffic.

Ferhat is out of contract at the end of this season, after just eight appearances in Ligue 2 it seems unlikely that his three year stay at Nimes will be extended.

Yesterday’s triple deal from the J-League suggests that Celtic will be active buyers during the January transfer window but it is difficult to see where a 28-year-old from the French second tier fits in with Ange Postecoglou’s plans going forward.

On Friday afternoon Footmercato reported:

At the end of the contract next June, Zinedine Ferhat is more than ever leaving Nîmes this winter. It now remains to know the future destination of the player. The Algerian international (12 caps) who had remained in spite of himself in the Gard last summer therefore remained with the Crocos this season (8 appearances)

Courted by Montpellier, then more recently at AS Saint-Étienne, the 28-year-old attacking midfielder also pleases abroad. According to our information, Celtic Glasgow’s profile and low cost appeal a lot. The current Glasgow Rangers runner-up in the Scottish League could jump at the chance during the month of January.

That story was picked up quickly by a few French and Algerian websites before coming on the radar of Celtic fans. Even with ‘low cost appeal’ it looks to be a long shot that Ferhat will be on his way to Celtic this month.
