Celtic are reported to be one of three clubs interested in signing Hannes Wolf, according to a report in The Scotsman.

Borussia Monchengladbach appear keen to move the midfielder on this month but after dropping out of their side a permanent move in the region of £9m seems unlikely.

Celtic are unlikely to be involved at that level but after being linked with Riley McGree before he opted to join Middlesbrough Ange Postecoglou appears open to adding another midfielder to his squad.

The Scotsman reports:

So far this campaign, he has played just eight times. The last time he was involved in the Bundlesiga was a cameo appearance of the bench at the end of October.

Celtic are one of three clubs who have been strongly linked with a move for the 21-year-old. Rapid Wien in his homeland and Trabzonspor are also keen on the Austrian international. Monchengladbach have confirmed Wolf could depart before the end of the transfer window.

“It could be that something happens with him in the next few days,” the club’s sporting director Max Eberl said. “Whether that be a loan or permanent sale, we’ll have to see.”

Wolf impressed for Red Bull Salzburg, scoring 23 goals across 89 appearances before a €12million switch to Leipzig but suffered a serious injury which kept him out for most of the 2019/20 season.

Having signed Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi this month Celtic have strengthened their midfield but last summer Ryan Christie, Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham moved on.

Ewan Henderson and Liam Shaw have gone out on loan this month with speculation that Ismaila Soro, who failed to make the 20 man squad against Hibs on Monday, could also be nearing an exit from Celtic.

From a distance Wolf appears an unlikely Celtic signing but with 12 days to go a lot can change during the Transfer Window.

From reading his history it looks to me that he’s another Ntcham type who, if things don’t go his way, will not bother his erse. That perception may be way off, but loan only for now til we see how it goes. Unless this is all paper pish, which it likely is….
