Ideguchi, Turnbull and Tierney- Sickening montage emerges of Don Robertson’s yellow card issues

When Don Robertson is the match referee there is a real danger to the safety of Celtic players. 

Yosuke Guchi is the latest victim, awaiting the verdict on the damage to his ankle following a brutal attack from Alloa’s Mouhamed Niang. Yellow card according to Robertson. 

Last month at Tannadice there was an even more shocking challenge put in on a Celtic midfielder with Robertson again failing to apply the Laws of the Game. 

Soon after coming on as a substitute Calum Butcher decided to wipe out David Turnbull and anything else in his path. Turnbull’s lower leg took the impact but thankfully his foot wasn’t grounded or the damage would have been far more severe. 

In this instance Robertson’s yellow card was upgraded to red and a three match SFA ban, Butcher missed out on a trip to Ibrox. 

February 2017 and Kieran Tierney had a lucky escape when Motherwell’s Ryan Bowman decided to stamp his studs into his opponents’ knee. Robertson reached for yellow. 

There have been other instances, at Rugby Park in January 2020 Alan Power was yellow carded for another attempt at wiping out Jeremie Frimpong, a year later the Dutch prospect took refuge in the Bundesliga. Robertson was the referee.

Yellow cards for all of them. So Robertson saw all 3 and deemed all the tackles no more than bookable offences.

No surprise. He’s always struck me as out of his depth.That he’s on the FIFA list shows the dire state of refereeing in Scotland. Season after season Robertson shows no sign of improving. A public park referee would get slaughtered by an observer for not seeing those as red cards
