Leigh Griffiths apparently has other options as well as Dundee to consider.

Over the last couple of days there has been a drip feed of news that the striker has left Celtic with reports of a contract termination and also a pay off.

Griffiths is currently on loan at Dundee but after just two goals from 14 appearances it seems that only the personal faith of James McPake is keeping him at Dens Park.

That faith may be influenced by the failure to bring in any other strikers this month with Jason Cummings one of the few other options available to the Dundee boss.

Griffiths now appears to be cut free from Celtic to agree his own deal but it is far from certain that he will spend the remainder of this season at Dundee.

The Scotsman reports:

James McPake is aware freed Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has other options but as well as including him in the squad to face Livingston tonight, the Dundee manager has revealed he will – fitness permitting – be in his plans for Saturday’s Scottish Cup trip to Dumbarton.

An appearance there would mean Griffiths is only able to play for Dundee in the competition which would restrict his options if the Dens Park club cannot agree a deal with the striker. McPake will leave it up to the player himself to decide if he wants to declare himself available or not.

Griffiths is now existing in a curious half-way house. Weekend newspapers reported he had been released by Celtic but, officially anyway, he remains on loan at Dundee. McPake admits there is still ongoing dialogue with Celtic “about a couple of things”.

Since he hasn’t played in a competitive game for Celtic this season Griffiths can move elsewhere with current rules only allowing a player to turn out for two teams per season.
