After being told last week that Nathan Patterson was a £16m defender Herald readers have learned tonight that Joe Aribo is a £30m European player. While on duty at the African Cup of Nations.

The former Charlton ace has been getting the full Alfredo Morelos/Ryan Kent/Ianis Hagi treatment as the Ibrox PR machine feed their favourite cheerleaders.

With 18 months left on his contract Aribo has to be sold in the summer or offered a new contract on the sort of terms that attracted Kemar Roofe and John Lundstrum to Ibrox..

After 11 days of the transfer window it seems that only Patterson and a £2m bid from Watford for Borna Barisic have been put in front of transfer guru Ross Wilson.

Ticket money from a Europa League tie against Borussia Dortmund will be handy but with losses of well over £1m a month some serious money has to come into Ibrox or the company will need to continue finding mystery investors to buy up quickly diluted shares.

The Herald reports:

RANGERS star Joe Aribo starred as Nigeria got their Africa Cup of Nations campaign off to a winning start with victory over Egypt.

The 25-year-old was influential in the middle of the park and provided an assist for the opening goal of the contest as Kelechi Iheanacho found the back of the net.

Aribo’s performance went down a storm on social media and some labelled him a £30million player following his impressive display. One Twitter user wrote: “Joe Aribo is a £30million European player.”

And there you have it. The broadsheet Herald turning to Twitter for their headlines, without naming the Twitter user. Whether it is euros or pounds sterling when he leaves there may be a decimal point knocked off the fee, like Barrie McKay and other stars.

    Here’s the difference between us and them;

    we fear our best players being sold, even for record sums
