Giovanni van Bronckhorst ha turned the pressure up on the Ibrox board to bring in new signings this month.
Despite the Nathan Patterson windfall and already having a transfer budget earmarked before the start of the month the Ibrox club have only brought in two starlets on loan.
As well as Patterson leaving Jemain Defoe has had his contract cancelled with Juninho Bacuna shifted to Birmingham City for an undisclosed fee after being snapped up in August.
John Souttar has been signed on a pre-contract agreement but it seems that a £500,000 up front payment will put his arrival on hold till the summer.
In 2012 Hearts got their fingers burnt with the transfer fee for Lee Wallace when Rangers went into liquidation, two years later Hearts were in administration but secured a CVA to survive.
Steven Gerrard quit in November after complaining about a lack of spending, the next four days will determine whether van Bronckhorst is about to discover the realities of managing a club that recorded losses of £23.5m last year.
?? GVB: I am confident we are leaving this window with the squad in better shape than we started it.

If we bring no one else in, then we are finishing it weaker, Patterson, Bacuna, Kelly out, Hagi injured, Sands and Diallo in on loan. The balance sheet is leaving the window better.
