For reasons known only to themselves the SFA called on Callum Beattie to conduct the draw for the fifth round of the Scottish Cup tonight. The longest running trophy in Scottish football, which still uses the original trophy remains without a sponsor. No commercial company wishes to be associated with the competition or the SFA.Â
A google check for Beattie reveals that he is a Scottish singer-song-writer who had a debut album called People Like Us released in May 2020. A Twitter check will reveal that he doesn’t like Celtic fans.  Why Beattie was called in to conduct the fifth round draw only the SFA can explain.Â
In 2017 Rod Stewart conducted the draw after Celtic beat Albion Rovers, the singer livened up the whole draw and had the competition and sponsors William Hill trending across social media. English media outlets even showed an interest in how Stewart conducted the draw.Â
You can’t get an A-Lister on for every cup draw but if you can’t there are plenty of former players that would enjoy a little bit of appreciation with their contribution to the national sport recognised by the SFA.Â
Jim Craig could be recognised by doing the draw, Arthur Duncan formerly of Hibs would appreciate it, Willie Miller won the trophy three years running, it wouldn’t take much effort to come up with some great names from the past to be involved.Â
Instead someone in the Comms department of the SFA thought that it would be a good idea to get someone that doesn’t like Celtic fans to conduct the draw for their unsponsored competition. Â
Delighted to be doing the Scottish Cup draw tonight @AlloaAthleticFC @CelticFC for @PremierSportsTV Not so delighted to be walking through all the Celtic fans tho ?

Could they not get somebody famous to do the draw?

I had to google him. Apparently, he’s a singer-songwriter.
He thinks he’s more important than he actually is.
