Scott Brown has announced his departure from Aberdeen but hasn’t made any mention of retiring from playing.

The midfielder ended 14 years of outstanding service to Celtic last year by moving to Aberdeen as part of Stephen Glass’s management team.

When Glass was sacked last month the future of Brown, on a two year player/coach contract was put in doubt.

New Dons boss Jim Goodwin made it clear that there was no coaching role for the veteran, today Brown spoke to the Aberdeen website about his decision to leave the club.

I would like to take this opportunity to firstly thank the Board at Aberdeen and, of course, Stephen Glass and his backroom staff, for giving me the opportunity to enjoy my first taste of coaching.

I’d also like to thank all my team-mates and the great staff both at Cormack Park and Pittodrie. I know I was only in the North-east for a short period, but the fans made me feel welcome from day one, so my thanks must also go to them for showing me so much support.

Aberdeen is a huge Club and I know there is a real determination from all to deliver success both on and off the pitch. I wish them all the best for the remainder of the season.

As his performances against the Tribute Act demonstrated Brown still has something to offer as a player but moving into coaching or management elsewhere may require his 100% focus and attention. Brown started 31 matches this season for Aberdeen, scoring two goals.

Gutted to lose Scott Brown.. A huge character & influence on the Don’s team .He was immense on the park and was a great leader to a young team.
With Glass going & Goodwin coming in it was always going to be difficult. Great things await Scott Brown possibly at Celtic Park. Good luck to a great player.
