Neil Lennon has branded last season at Celtic as toxic without offering any explanation or admission for his role in what went wrong.
Celtic went into Lockdown One with a 10 point lead at the top of the Premiership with a place booked in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup.
Everything was running smoothly, Leigh Griffiths and Odsonne Edouard had formed a highly effective strike partnership with Fraser Forster just as influential at the other end of the pitch.
When the squad re-emerged in July to play in France Griffiths and Forster weren’t involved, Edouard looked lethargic as he carried the striking burden on his own with no new faces on board.
What happened next no-one could have predicted. Domestically the team reached October with just two SPFL points dropped but by the end of February the gap at the top of the table was over 20 points with Lennon walking away.
Ange Postecoglou picked up the task of overseeing a massive rebuilding job, Lennon and Peter Lawwell have departed the scene, speaking to The Sun the former Celtic boss said:
Look, I have been Celtic manager twice. My last season was toxic and highly pressured, so I feel I can pretty much cope with most situations.
I love what I’m hearing about the fans here, their emotion and passion for the club. I can’t stop telling people how excited I am about this opportunity.
I’ve been impressed by everyone at the club — I’ll give my all to bring success to Omonia Nicosia.
Having managed the club for 12 months prior to Lockdown it is mainly on the manager if things became toxic after Lockdown. Lennon drew his first match in charge against Ethnikos Achna, on Wednesday Omonia face AEL in a Cyprus Cup tie.
Blame everyone but the two main players…Lennon and Lawell…Lennon wouldn’t or couldn’t stand up to Lawell,at least Brendan Rodgers did and good on him for doing so..Lennon will be gone by Summer,guaranteed.
It was toxic, but toxic because Lennon wouldn’t leave earlier, don’t get me wrong attacking the bus when we out of cup was wrong, didn’t like that sense of entitlement, but at end of day, if he had Celtic truly in his heart, he would have left, and gave someone a chance of at least trying to peg some points back.
I’ve not been Lennon’s biggest fan, since he threw Alan Thomson under the bus, he lacked loyalty, and decency, as far as a was concerned.
He will get the bullet soon enough, he will blame referees , blame media, and blame players, and everybody but himself. That is what he does.
