Daizen Maeda is certainly winning over the Celtic support.

Arriving just as Kyogo Furuhashi was injured expectations were high for the on-loan Yokohama Marinos striker, who had played under Ange Postecoglou in the J-League.

Scoring after less than five minutes of his debut sent expectations even higher but things went a little flat after that with an international double-header not helping. His commitment wasn’t in doubt, appearing as a substitute in the Glasgow derby the day after playing for Japan against Saudi Arabia.

The goals didn’t flow Kyogo-like, Giorgos Giakoumakis appeared with eye-catching goals and performances but Postecoglou never wavered with his faith in Maeda.

He played a strong role in the Scottish Cup win over, denied a goal by John Beaton.

Yesterday Jota was switched to the right to accommodate Maeda, after 87 minutes he was still chasing and hounding down opponents weary from a 4-0 defeat.

Over the next 10 days he’ll be away again on World Cup, Celtic fans will be watching closely hoping that he returns ready to go into action at Ibrox on April 3.

He must be a menace come to think all forwards are doing a fantastic job of closing defenders down it allows midfielders or defenders pick up balls that are hurriedly booted up field but maedeo is so quick he catches defenders on the ball he caught Ross County goalie and if he was not so honest would have got penalty should have got one against Dundee utd when pushed of the ball can’t put push a player off the ball body checked him
