Alfredo Morelos has been ruled out of action for the rest of the season.
The striker had to cut short his international call up but after a check up at Murray Park he was spotted on crutches on a flight to visit a London based specialist.
Morelos missed Sunday’s defeat from Celtic and will now sit out the two remaining Glasgow derbies as the hoops chase their fifth treble in six years.
This afternoon the Ibrox club announced:
FOLLOWING an injury sustained whilst on international duty with Colombia, Alfredo Morelos has undergone surgery to his thigh.
Our medical team are pleased with the outcome of the operation and his rehabilitation programme is underway.
He will return to training with the First Team squad during pre season. We wish him well during his rehabilitation.
Morelos was substituted in the three club appearances before reporting for duty with Colombia.
After being replaced against Dundee on March 20 he had an ice-pack placed on his thigh but still flew out to meet up with his international team-mates.
Kemar Roofe replaced the chunky striker against Celtic with Giovanni van Bronckhorst also able to call on Cedric Itten and Scott Wright through the demanding April fixture list.
With his contract expiring in May 2023 Morelos may have played his last game for the Govan giants with a host of European clubs regularly keeping tabs on him or preparing to launch bids for the former HJK Helsinki starlet.
