Unable or unwilling to report the obvious, the Daily Record has decided that both sets of supporters were unhappy with Bobby Madden’s performance at Hampden on Sunday.

Then they go on to cover some of the comments from Des Roache and Steve Conroy on their podcast.

Lumping things together always seems to be the easiest way for the Glasgow based publisher rather than take individual stories on their own merit.

Madden turned in the most outrageous refereeing performance since his good friend John Beaton took control at Ibrox in December 2018.

Back then Alfredo Morelos had licence to do as he liked without any action taken by Beaton, this time John Lundstram and Madden took on those roles.

Covering the Roache and Conroy podcast, the Record claims:

Bobby Madden was called into question by both sets of supporters during the Scottish Cup semi-final clash with neither end happy with how he controlled the game.

Chris Sutton claimed the whistler “embarrassed” himself while Michael Stewart said he had a “shocker” at the national stadium.

Central to the frustrations were a number of incidents involving Lundstram, who went off as a 102nd minute substitute before Carl Starfelt’s own goal decided the tie.

The former referees also discussed how Madden stopped play to get treatment for Joe Aribo yet minutes later allowed play to continue while Josip Juranovic lay injured.

Finally in the 117th minute after David Turnbull took a free-kick Madden changed his mind and decided to award the free kick to the other team.

Roache and Conroy also questioned Madden taking to Instagram after the match but both agreed that he was a great guy and a top referee despite a catalogue of honest mistakes on Sunday that went in one direction.
