Chris Sutton at a complete loss over Awards season

Chris Sutton can’t see past Cameron Carter-Vickers as Player of the Season.

The on loan defender made it onto the nominations for the Scottish Football Writers Award but missed out to Craig Gordon.

Celtic team-mate Callum McGregor picked up the award from PFA Scotland but the role of Carter-Vickers seems to have been overlooked.

Last season Celtic leaked goals whatever formation and partnerships they tried in defence and in goals but fairly quickly Ange Postecoglou has put together a brand new look at the back.

A year ago Tony Ralston and Greg Taylor were watching Jonjoe Kenny and Diego Laxalt playing at full-back but it is in central defence that the crucial partnerships are former.

Sutton sometimes stood in as a central defender under Martin O’Neill but after acknowledging the awards to McGregor and Gordon, he told Daily Record readers:

I have not seen anyone around the country who has played a more important role in the fortunes of their team than Carter-Vickers.

From the moment he arrived at Parkhead just a few minutes before the close of last summer’s transfer window from Spurs, he has been terrific.

Carter-Vickers has grown into his role week on week to such an extent that, if his name is missing from a team sheet, it would cause the fans as much panic as the removal of anyone else within the entire squad. That’s a sign of his importance.

Of course, this is a game all about opinions and I wouldn’t quibble too much with the professionals who handed their accolade to McGregor.

Talks appear to be ongoing to convert Carter-Vickers loan move into a permanent deal from Spurs.

Agree with Chris vickers has been a stand out in the defence long may it continue.regarding his transfer read that he is on around £50/60 thou per week at spurs can’t see celtic trying to match that wage per week or maybe the wage at spurs is just bull from the media in Scotland let’s see what happens come the end of his loan deal.

It won’t matter Chris, he won’t be here next season. Money talks I’m afraid.

  • Knoxy Bhoy says:

I don’t think he’ll be playing in paradise next season as said before money talks n maybe spurs will want him now if not he’ll probably go to a bottom ten team it’s down to the player if he wants medals or money
