Celtic are reported to be showing an interest in Aidomo Emakhu.

The teenage Shamrock Rovers striker is also being linked with Italian sides Roma and Lecce with Wolves and Southampton also in contention for his signing.

With Dermot Desmond as a significant investor in Shamrock Rovers Celtic will be well aware of Emakhu, last summer Liam Scales swapped the Dublin hoops for the Glasgow version.

The Irish edition of The Sun reports:

AIDOMO EMAKHU could be the latest Irish footballer to move to Italy. SunSport has learned that Lecce have shown strong interest in the Shamrock Rovers striker.

But they face increased competition with Wolves and Southampton also monitoring the 18-year-old.

Roma and Celtic have been keeping tabs on Emakhu who burst onto the scene by scoring a last-minute winner against Teuta in the Europa Conference League last August.

That was one of only two goals for the Hoops in 27 outings but most of those appearances have been off the bench and the teenager is viewed as a raw talent with plenty of potential.

In January Celtic signed Jonny Kenny from Sligo Rovers but where young emerging talent fits in at Celtic is a major problem as Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide discovered.

Having played at League of Ireland level the next step up is difficult to gauge with a direct leap into the Celtic first team unlikely.

Last season Celtic’s B side played in the Lowland League but there is uncertainty over whether that will be repeated next season.
