Luca Connell has left Celtic with a confession that his three year stay hadn’t exactly gone as planned.

In the summer of 2019 he arrived as a teenager with a dozen Championship appearances at Bolton to his name, now he looks for a new club on the back of starting 22 League One matches for Queens Park.

There were genuine high hopes for Connell when he arrived at Celtic but with Scott Brown and Callum McGregor in place for nine-in-a-row other midfielders like Olivier Ntcham, Nir Bitton, Tom Rogic and Ryan Christie battling for places.

Before lockdown in March 2020 Connell had yet to make the bench in a competitive match, occasional matches in the Glasgow Cup or Challenge Cup were never going to see his career kick on.

Connell did help Queens Park to back-to-back promotions but that wouldn’t have been in his thoughts when he left Bolton as they crashed down the divisions hampered by financial issues.

Fleetwood Town are reported to be interested in signing Connell, it will be interesting to see if he can get his career back on track.
