The longest transfer saga of the summer is expected to be concluded this week with Jota joining Celtic on a permanent contract.

At the end of August 2021 Celtic and Benfica thrashed out a complex loan deal that is believed to include an option to buy that gives the Portuguese club a 30% slice of any future transfer fee above £6.5m.

A similar deal was agreed with Spurs for Cameron Carter-Vickers but while that was concluded 10 days ago Celtic fans have been left to trail Jota on social media as he pops up in Ibiza, New York and Cancun.

Celtic’s non-international players return for pre-season training a week today with Portuguese publisher Record expecting Jota’s move to be concluded this week.

Committing the best part of £13m to sign Jota and Carter Vickers would be a major commitment by Celtic, last year the first signing wasn’t made until July 14 when Liel Abada moved from Maccabi Petah Tikva for £3.5m.
