Alexandro Bernabei’s move from Lanus to Celtic appears to have made progress, according to reports from Argentina.

The left-back has been strongly linked with a move to Scotland over the last 10 days but blotted his copy book on Sunday night when he was given a straight red card for head-butting an opponent.

Despite that indiscretion, a red card red flag perhaps, it seems that negotiations for Celtic’s first ever Argentinian signing have advanced with a fee and 10% sell-on clause agreed between the two clubs.

Argentinian website Engrandos reported this afternoon:

And, in the next few hours, a new player could join the list of departures from the South of Greater Buenos Aires. This is Alexandro Bernabei, on a trip that will surely have, if everything progresses as at the moment, a European destination.

In recent days, Celtic of Scotland made strong progress to enlist the services of the 21-year-old winger. However, the offers he sent were insufficient for the Lanús CD, which responded with a counteroffer. And, this Tuesday, according to the journalist César Luis Merlo , it was accepted: there is a verbal agreement and everything could be resolved positively in the next few hours.

Although figures were not disclosed, what could be known is that the operation would take place for 90% of the pass; leaving the Garnet with 10% of the economic rights, favoring this in the event of a hypothetical future sale from Scotland.

Greg Taylor was virtually unchallenged as Celtic’s left back in the second half of the season while Josip Juranovic and Tomy Ralston competed for the right-back slot.

Replicating that competition on the other side of the back four appears to be a priority with Celtic strongly linked with Mohaned Jeaze of Hammerby last month.

That trail seems to have gone cold with today’s report from Argentina suggesting that Ange Postecoglou is close to securing his first new face of the transfer window on the back of converting the deals for Daizen Maeda and Cameron Carter-Vickers to permanent moves.
