Alexandro Bernabei is expected to complete his transfer to Celtic over the weekend and train with his new team-mates next week.

On Friday morning the defender was pictured at Glasgow Airport but Celtic fans looking out for a follow up during the day were left disappointed with no further news emerging.

Media outlets in Argentina have been very confident of the deal going through for a fee in the region of £3.5m as Ange Postecoglou bolsters his squad to defend the SPFL Premiership title and a return to the Champions League for the first time since 2017.

Celtic’s non-internationalists begin pre-season training on Monday before the full squad flies out to Austria for a 10 day training camp that includes two friendly matches.

There is one minor complication to the transfer with Bernabei’s  possibly carrying a two match suspension for being sent off during Lanus’ 1-0 win over Colon last week with that issue possibly effecting the timeline of an official announcement.

Transfer of a two match suspension is at the discretion of the Argentinian FA although this could be avoided if the signing is delayed until July 1 with Labus having matches on June 26 and 30.

It was a case of wait and wonder for Celtic fans throughout Friday but at 11.23pm The Sun reported:

ARGENTINIAN kid Alexandro Bernabei will become Celtic’s third summer signing in the next 48 hours — and Jota is likely to follow within days.

Left-back Bernabei, 21, finally landed in Glasgow yesterday following a marathon journey from Buenos Aires.

The Lanus defender, right, who will cost the Hoops around £3.75million, will complete the formalities of his switch to the Premiership champions over the weekend.

The Under-19 cap, who will become the first Argentinian ever to play for Celtic, is expected to join his new team-mates when they begin pre- season training at the start of the week.

Adam Montgomery, Boli Bolingoli and Liam Scales all played at left-back in the first half of last season but from February onwards Greg Taylor was the clear first choice with the former Kilmarnock man signing a new contract before Christmas.

Having two options in every position will allow Ange Postecoglou to really push his players through their schedule of pre-season friendlies- including Legia Warsaw, Rapid Vienna and Norwich City ahead of the SPFL Premiership opener on July 31 at home to Aberdeen.
