Celtic will find out on Monday whether they will be able to field a team in next season’s Lowland League.

Tommy McIntyre’s squad finished third in the 2021/22 campaign with Bonnyrigg Rose winning the title and through the play-off system to reach the SPFL.

After allowing the two Glasgow Premiership sides to compete Hearts wanted to play in the 22/23 season but having three guest clubs in the set-up seemed to hit a raw nerve with the other clubs.

There is some friction in the Lowland League about the lack of promotion opportunities but it seems that a heavy cash sweetener of £120,000 rather than £50,000 could allow three B teams to take part next season.

The Sun reports:

RANGERS, Celtic and Hearts have been given fresh hope their B teams could play in the Lowland League next season.

A proposal for them to participate as guest teams in the fifth tier of the SFA pyramid for a second year running (the first in the case of Hearts) was knocked back by member clubs last week.

There will now be a second vote on the issue on Monday June 6. The three clubs are all willing to pay £40,000 to enter the Lowland League for the upcoming season.

Celtic’s squad was limited to players under the age of 20 but the reality is that the hoops mainly fielded an u-18 side bolstered by Joey Dawson and Bosun Lawal.

Most of the players involved in the 21/22 season need to step up to play in the SPFL at Championship level if they are to have a realistic option of breaking into the first team squad.
