With Alexandro Bernabei blotting his copybook last night with a red card on his return to action for Lanus Celtic may be reviving interest in other left-back options.

Before the end of the SPFL season Mohanad Jeahze of Hammerby was being linked with a switch, like Bernabei the Iraqi internationalist is out of contract next year.

Celtic will have a number of affordable options to compete with Greg Taylor for the left-back slot, speaking to Give Me Sport, Anthony Joseph of Sky Sports provided an update on where things stand with the Hammarby defender:

They know what Jeahze would want. Jeahze is also quite keen on a move to Celtic, he wants to play in the Champions League obviously.

But in terms of getting that deal done, if they know the player wants to come, they know he’s not going to command a great fee, they can sit on it for a bit. They know he’s not going to be snapped by others at the moment.

It is almost impossible to justify or defend the red card that Bernabei picked up last night, he was fouled, pushed and provoked but a player has to resist the temptation to retaliate.

Celtic’s non-internationalists return to training at Lennoxtown a week today ahead of their Austrian training camp. So far there have been no additions to the squad that finished last season, technically Ange Postecoglou is a few down without Tom Rogic, Nir Bitton, Karamoko Dembele and Jota but that is likely to change soon as the manager cranks things up for his second season in charge.
