Liel Abada scored his first goal at full international level as he put Israel in the lead in the 25th minute of tonight’s Nations League tie at home to Israel.

It was a trademark finish from the Celtic winger as he ghosted in off the right flank to net from close range, adding to his 15 goals for Celtic spread across four competitions.

While it was a great start for Abada things quickly turned against Israel with Island hitting back to lead 2-1 early in the second half. Five minutes from the end Shon Weissman equalised to earn Israel a point.

A year ago Abada was a teenager in the Israeli league, his career changed direction when Celtic paid out a fee of £3.5m to make the winger the first significant signing for Ange Postecoglou.

After impressing on his debut against West Ham in a pre-season friendly he took just 39 minutes to net on his competitive debut at home to Midtjylland in a Champions League qualifier.

Abada finished his first season with two winners’ medals and was voted Young Player of the Year by PFA Scotland.

Tonight was his sixth appearance for the full international side.
