Calvin Bassey’s incredible season shows no sign of ending.

After picking up a Europa League losers medal and winning the Scottish Cup the Ibrox starlet has been awarded the Revelation of the Year trophy in Nigeria. It is unclear from a report in The Sun whether the award applies to 2021 or 2022.

Over the last month the Ibrox transfer hype has settled firmly on Bassey who has started 31 SPFL matches over the course of two seasons.

According to some a transfer bidding war is about to break out that will result in a bid of more than £25m being made for his services. That figure is significant because it is the fee that Celtic got for Kieran Tierney, some reports have compared Bassey to Virgil van Dijk.

The Sun reports:

RANGERS duo Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo have been rewarded for their great form this season. The pair were among the winners at Nigerian football’s annual “Ballers Awards”.

Bassey scooped up the Revelation of the Year trophy while Aribo was named Midfielder of the Year at the event on Saturday night.

Both players are currently away on international duty with the international side and received the awards in their absence.

The two players have been hailed by their nation for their fantastic form at club level and for the Super Eagles this season.

Bassey and Aribo helped guide Rangers to the Europa League final, where the midfielder scored the only goal in the Eintracht Frankfurt clash in Seville.

NOTE: There was more than one goal scored in the 2022 Europa League Final.

Being awarded Revelation of the Year by a country that failed to reach the World Cup Finals is unlikely to add any more millions to Bassey’s transfer fee.

The Nigerian defender is believed to be getting paid around £5,000 a week and is halfway through the four year contract that he signed when he left Leicester City in 2020.

Yet more pathetic desperation from this rag trying to raise funds to keep their favourite klub afloat a while longer.

What these fools don’t realise is that even if they do sell Bassey his replacement will be unlikely to cost 1% of that fee and the rest will not be spent on the squad but will evaporate into the legal action/durector loans ether.

That they believe they will be a serious challenge for us next year is laughable, they’ll need some miracles to have a hope. Are they still miracles if they are granted by Lucifer instead of the Big Man???

It’s a repeat of the Morelos valuation playbook.

Get it reinforced – repeatedly – in the bears’ heads that “Bassey is worth £25M”.

Of course, no club will offer that amount – and the probability is that Bassey will still be in a sevco jersey next season.

But, the Ibrox PR expert will proclaim that they managed to keep a £25M rated player in the squad – and that is also proof that they don’t need the money! 🙂

The spin around Bassey’s non-sale will also help to distract the bears from the fact that the club probably hasn’t actually bought any new players.

As I said before tell me another player valued at £25 million earning 5 grand a week.
Surely big Shirley must approach the board then and demand the megabucks deal in wages terms they value him at,though somehow a don’t think this will happen.
