A week ago Ibrox fans, cheer-leaders, apologists and bloggers were coming to terms with the news that their star asset was valued at just £6m. Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa weren’t getting involved in a bidding war as Southampton picked up a bench warmer.Â
