With absolutely nothing happening, incoming or outgoing, at Ibrox the club is attempting to manage the news to keep bears distracted from the grim reality following on from settling the contract breaches with Sports Direct.

One useful distraction is to be linked with a wonderkid or starlet.

On Friday morning a report emerged that Israeli midfielder Oscar Gloukh was an £8m target. Gloukh has made a big impact at the u-19 European Championships where Israeli lost out to England in the final.

Late on Friday night Jonny McFarlane of the Rangers Review, one of the official media partners, popped up to dismiss that story with some venom.

Not only was Gloukh not a target but he wasn’t one of the thousands of players on the club database! Every club serious about recruitment will be present at the u-19 finals with scouts fully briefed about the players involved, and crucially their contract situations.

On Friday night The Sun offered Manchester City starlet James McAtee as a signing target- true to form the obedient McFarlane was along at lunchtime to kill off another transfer tale.

So far John Souttar is the only addition to last season’s squad although a number of 16-year-old’s have been signed up for the B team.
