Agents for Vinicius Souza have denied that he is about to join PSV Eindhoven.

Celtic have been strongly linked with the Lommel midfielder who impressed on loan at Mechelen last season.

Clubs in Germany, Spain, Holland and Turkey as well as Celtic have expressed interest in the midfielder who is attached to the City Football Group.

Earlier today the Scottish Daily Express were dismissive of Celtic’s hopes of signing Souza, claiming that he was on his way to PSV Eindhoven but that came as news to one PSV reporter who has 78,000 followers on Twitter.

The Express reported:

Ange Postecoglou is set to be dealt a blow in his Celtic strengthening plans as top target Vinicius Souza is ready to join PSV Eindhoven.

Scottish Express Sport can reveal that the Dutch giants – bossed by Manchester United hero Ruud van Nistelrooy – are on course to win the race for the Brazilian midfielder, who was seen by Celtic as the ideal anchorman for the midfield to solidify their bid to retain the Premiership title and make an impact in the Champions League.

Responding, Rik Elfrink, a PSV watcher for Eindhover Dagblad tweeted:

Even geïnformeerd naar verhaal over Vincius Souza en PSV. Agenten van de Braziliaan ontkennen desgevraagd allebei (in het Spaans en Engels) een Schots verhaal dat hij bij PSV gaat voetballen. De beslissing over zijn toekomst is wel nabij en valt waarschijnlijk al deze week.

Informed about the story about Vincius Souza and PSV. When asked, agents of the Brazilian both deny (in Spanish and English) a Scottish story that he will play football at PSV. The decision about his future is near and probably already this week.

It is believed that Lommel are only wanting to send Souza out on loan again but it is likely that they will get offers for a permanent move.

Last season Celtic took Daizen Maeda, Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers on loan with all three deals having a guaranteed right to buy.

Ultimately the player has the final say on any move with the Souza sagging looking to run for at least a few more days.

    No right to buy? Bye-Bye.

If he’s not signed as a permanent player by the weekend, forget about him and move on. Every player has the right to look and try and get the best deal for their self, but so do the clubs. If he needs this much convincing, then maybe he’s not the right player for us. D day is looking and if he’s not a full time Celtic player by the weekend, then I would like to see them concentrate their efforts on other players who would love the chance to don the Hoops.
